WRINKLE TEAM (ANIMAL DETECTIVE)

The theme for this design was “Animal Detective.” My first thought went immediately to my old pet Paco, a Sharpei–Beagle mix: lively and unruly, full of instinct, but not the most clever of his generation. His personality made him a perfect detective, somehow reminding me of Magnum P.I.

I started sketching and realized something was missing—some contrast. So I decided to add a classical counterpart, the “brains” of the group. I thought of Sphynx cats, and how their frontal wrinkles reminded me of a brain… and so the Wrinkle Team was born. Still, I didn’t want to lean completely on the Higgins reference. The small mustache on the cat brought to mind another, more mysterious detective counterpart: Gaff, from Blade Runner. It fit perfectly, so I introduced the classic detective coat alongside Paco’s Hawaiian shirt.

Paco and Gaff, the Wrinkle Team: I imagine them as characters in a comic or a videogame. This piece works as an illustrative entry for character design, focusing on their interaction—walking, talking, and revealing their personalities through contrast.
