Hi! I am Carlo - an architect, illustrator, and designer with over 15 years of professional experience across architecture, visualization, illustration, and concept-driven design.

I come from a little town on the coast in central Italy. I graduated in Architecture in Rome in 2009 and have worked continuously as an architect since then. In parallel, I have always cultivated drawing and visual arts as a core practice, gradually developing a professional path as an illustrator and comic artist. Since 2021, I have worked part-time as both architect and illustrator, and since 2025 I operate as a full-time independent professional.

I am based in Berlin since 2013.

Cross-Training / Mulitdisciplinarity
Studying architecture in Rome means being immersed simultaneously in culture, technique, history, and art. That environment amplified an already existing duality between technical thinking and creative exploration. My work is always informed by multiple disciplines: architecture influences illustration, drawing feeds back into design. In each project I work on I bring inputs from other fields and experiences.

Adaptability
I began my professional career during the economic crisis of 2009. That period taught me versatility, resilience, and pragmatism. I learned to switch roles, adapt quickly, and do what was needed. This mindset still defines how I work today.

I am a specialist in selected fields and a swiss-army-knife in many others. Above all, I am adaptable: I enter complex projects quickly, understand their needs, and support teams and clients with precision, reliability, and a problem-solving mindset shaped by my varied professional history.

Architecture
I specialize in execution and detail planning, with a strong focus on external façades (wood and aluminium systems), high-quality interior façades, architectural interiors, and timber construction. I have worked on a wide range of projects, including new constructions, primary schools and kindergartens, fire stations, meteorological research centers, multi-storey residential buildings, offices, and towers.

Illustration
My illustration practice focuses on nature and landscape, travel and place-based storytelling, and fantasy or speculative worlds. I am driven to develop visual narratives strongly connected to territory, culture, and identity, and I have worked on commercial projects where illustration became an extension of brands rooted in specific cultural contexts.

Comics
My work has been published by Jovis Verlag (Berlin) in collaboration with paper planes e.V., within a project focused on urban sociology and the reclaiming of public space for people rather than cars. I am currently adapting a book about migration into a graphic novel as a personal project.

Teaching & Lecturing
I have experience in architectural education, including private tutoring in descriptive geometry and perspective, work as Assistant Lecturer at the University of Waterloo (Rome Program), and participation in semester reviews at the Pratt Institute of New York (Rome Program). Teaching has sharpened my ability to explain complex ideas clearly and visually.

Concept Art
I am particularly interested in bringing architectural design thinking into concept art. My approach is grounded in design development, iteration, functional logic, and a broad technical and historical vocabulary. This allows me to build worlds, cities, and environments that feel believable, coherent, and internally consistent, with a strong emphasis on realism and functionality.

Outside the Studio
I am outdoor-oriented by nature. Hiking, bouldering, sailing, kayaking, swimming. I used the steady income of architectural practice to travel extensively as a backpacker, from megacities like Hong Kong to unknown sites in rural Malaysia, from jungles to coral reefs. Low budget, so that I had to be creative to make things work. This brought me a lot of peculiar adventures: maybe not epic, but true, personal. I strive to make these experiences my main reference material - on the visual level, but even more, on the emphatic one.
