Hi! I am Carlo — a freelance illustrator with a background in architecture, based in Berlin.
Whether in ink & paper, watercolor, or digital media, my work is rooted in the themes of travel and exploration — both inward and outward — and expressed through my favorite subjects: nature and fantasy.
Within this framework, I am drawn to themes like environmental awareness, territorial identity, mental health, mindfulness, and the art of play.
I love to experience life firsthand: I bring personal references and nuances into my illustrations, gathered through multi-day hikes in the wild, solo backpacking in Asia and South America, the practice of contemporary architecture, and the study of the ancient cultures that fill my home country.
I like to work with traditional media (pencils, ink & watercolor) as well as digital. My style is heavily influenced by old survival guides, comics and vintage role-playing games. A recent passion for concept art has opened up new painterly paths that I am constantly exploring.
I am drawn to projects in editorial illustration, illustrated books and the game publishing sector (board games, tabletop RPGs, collectible card games). I also have experience in brand design for gastronomy and in creating short comics for urban sociology projects.
Alongside my illustration work, I bring several years of experience as an architect: I’m very comfortable working with deadlines, feedback loops, and structured collaboration.
