LEH´DRYTH, THE CORAL MAGUS

Illustrative entry for a Character Design, thought as Tarot Card. The prompt was to explore the theme of the Merfolk (Sirens, Tritons et similia).

I decided to explore the concept of the Magus—not as a mere practitioner of magic like those found in modern fantasy, but as the embodiment of a completed inner transformation: a truth seeker who has realized the deeper nature of existence, becoming fully conscious, free, and aligned with the whole, and who now wanders to help others along the same path.

Being a Merfolk, this meant a fusion with ocean elements: a wonderful occasion to dive into the wonderful shapes of the Reefs I had recently seen in a trip in the Philippines.

“Once a Merling, the the being now known as Leh’dryt is now part of the Ocean itself. Shelter for fishes, base for coral. He wields the Nautilus Staff, and Whaletooth, a sword the doesn’t cut. Not that it would need it, anyway: he can make you face your own inner demons, and leave you with the choice: vow to face them, or daily reflect on why you won’t, while you slowly turn into a coral.”
