HANDSCAPES - CONCEPTUAL PORTRAIT SERIES
In this ongoing series, I explore themes of identity and our relationship to territory. Instead of focusing on the face, I work with the hand: its lines—almost a cartography of their own—suggest the development of a landscape meaningful to the subject portrayed. This landscape can be a real location tied to personal history, or an environment that holds symbolic value.
Scroll down to view the three pieces:
#1: Self Portrait – The pilot of the series; the mountain and the river carry a symbolic meaning.
#2: Roos – Private Commission, created as a parting gift, portraying a relocation from the Netherlands to South Africa.
#3 Federica+Andrea - Private commission, created as a wedding gift, celebrating both places meaningful to each individual and those shared by the portrayed couple.
