CHUPACABRA

Illustration made in one day for a weekly challenge, thinking on a comic cover or a poster. The prompt was “El Chupacabra”, the famous cryptid from the Americas. I did not know much about it, so I did a quick research and found out that, as usual, there were different “versions” on the aspect of this blood sucking beast: one more reptile, one more canine. Both of course with vampiric fangs and spikes on the back. As usual I went back to nature for inspiration, and started experimenting with pterosauria snouts and hyena bodies.

The spikes I took from Iguanas: the need to show them made me think of a backside pose, instead of a classic 3/4 crouching pose. Once I started shading I got immediately the idea of a flashlight pointing at it. The title font is original, I am developing it illustration after illustration.
